Bridging Research and Industry for ICHRIE Members: The 2026 ICHRIE Global Research Marathon
We - Drs. Minwoo Lee and SoJung Lee are pleased to serve as Co-Chairs of the 2026 ICHRIE Global Research Marathon. This initiative reflects a shared vision: advancing hospitality and tourism research that is deeply grounded in real industry challenges.
True research, we believe, should not only contribute to theory but also address practical needs in the field. However, conducting meaningful industry-aligned research is not always easy. It requires building relationships, understanding operational realities, and identifying questions that matter to practitioners. Through collaboration with International CHRIE, we were grateful to launch the 2026 ICHRIE Global Research Marathon in partnership with three outstanding industry organizations: Club Management Association of America (CMAA), National Club Association (NCA), and Club Benchmarking.

The enthusiasm surrounding this year’s marathon has been remarkable. The kickoff meeting brought together 55 participants forming 11 research teams, representing scholars and students committed to addressing pressing questions in hospitality and private club management. During the kickoff session, we also had the opportunity to learn directly from our sponsors and industry leaders, whose insights help ensure that the research topics remain grounded in real-world challenges.

The ICHRIE Research Marathon provides a unique platform where scholars, students, and industry professionals collaborate to generate research that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant. We hope that this initiative encourages more hospitality researchers to engage directly with industry partners and pursue research that makes a meaningful difference.
We are grateful to work alongside our industry partners, and the ICHRIE Office team for their invaluable support in making this initiative possible.
Please stay tuned for more!
