Position Summary
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at CSU invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure track Assistant Professor in Hospitality Management. We seek applications from hospitality and event management experts who have industry experience and earned at least a master’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates who have a Ph.D. or ABD (Ph.D. completed by August 2023), have extensive teaching hospitality-related courses at the undergraduate level, curriculum development, student advising/mentoring, and will also be expected to contribute to the increased emphasis on industry-academia partnership. Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses, advising/mentoring students, and supervising practicum and internship. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, self-motivate, think critically, troubleshoot, and communicate effectively, and will also be expected to contribute to expanding the curriculum beyond the traditional boundary of ‘hospitality.’ The position is targeted to start on August 16, 2023.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A master’s degree (degree must be from a regionally, nationally accredited, or internationally accredited/government-certified university.)•At least 3+ years of managerial or supervisory level working experience in the hospitality industry
  • Recent or prior experience teaching a variety of courses related to hospitality management (such as lodging management/operations, tourism development, leadership, conferences/meetings/event planning, human resource management, and accounting/cost control)
  • Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate or graduate students
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills and communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • Commitment to DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice) and student success
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or ABD (Ph.D. completed by August 2023) in hospitality, event, tourism management, or related field (education, service management)
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate experiential learning activities (such as practicum and internship)
  • Evidence of an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to expanding the curriculum beyond the traditional boundary of “hospitality” such as entertainment, sports, recreation, cruise, theme park, healthcare, or retail.
