The Annual DUCK Race returns for the 2023 ICHRIE Summer Conference in Phoenix, Arizona!
ICHRIE and the CHRIE FutureFund™ are pleased to announce the Annual DUCK Race will be Wednesday 19th July at the Lazy River following the Opening Reception at Education & Innovation Center (EIC). We’ll start prepping the DUCKS for their event at 8 PM, so make your way over right after the EIC closes and grab a spot close to the action. DUCKS are set to start promptly at 8:30 PM.
The JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa offers an outstanding racecourse at their Lazy River located near the pool’s Just a Splash Bar & Grill. We know you will be ready for a beverage when you get there, so grab one and cheer on your DUCK in the most exciting event at the Annual ICHRIE Conference.
DUCKS are limited, on a first-come, first-serve basis, and available for sale online starting 1st May 2023. You may purchase 1 DUCK for US$15, but your better deal is to buy 2 DUCKS for US$25. If any DUCKS remain unsold prior to the Annual Summer Conference, they will be available onsite for US$20 each. The buyer of the winning DUCK does not need to be present at the race.
While there is no limit to the number of DUCKS you can purchase, you are encouraged to participate in the Early Bird Special of 1 DUCK for $15, and 2 DUCKS for $25.

The CHRIE FutureFund™ Committee looks forward to the 2023 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. As you are aware, this conference will see the return of the Duck Race on Wednesday Opening Night, which will kickstart the conference in exciting fashion. As some ICHRIE members may not be familiar with the CHRIE FutureFund™ and its activities, this brief summary is provided to make you aware of CHRIE FutureFund’s™ importance to ICHRIE members.
The CHRIE FutureFund™ was created in the late 1990’s by a group of ICHRIE members seeking to establish a source of funds that would support ICHRIE members, particularly future members. Over the years the CHRIE FutureFund™ has supported numerous ICHRIE activities, including the Knowledge Matters Simulation Competition, the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Cases Competition, and recently providing 24 full ICHRIE membership and annual conference registrations to hospitality and tourism educators from developing nations. For many years CHRIE FutureFund™ has provided complimentary ICHRIE annual conference registrations to the Best Paper Winners from the Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality & Tourism.
In 2023 CHRIE FutureFund™ increased its award to the Graduate Conference Best Paper Winners by providing support of ICHRIE membership as well as lodging at the ICHRIE Annual Conference. The newest CHRIE FutureFund™ activity is support of the newly announced Dissertation Competition. Each of the activities funded by CHRIE FutureFund™ are focused on providing support to ICHRIE members and its future members. Thus, the CHRIE FutureFund™ is meeting its objective of providing for the future of ICHRIE as well as that of the hospitality & tourism professoriate.
The CHRIE FutureFund™ achieves its objective because members participate in FutureFund activities. This is where each ICHRIE member can help. Be a part of the Duck Race by purchasing a duck. Our other primary activity in Phoenix will be the 50-50 Raffle, and more information on that will be forthcoming.
