 A Vision for the Future

Incubate, inspire, and influence hospitality and tourism research: The updated Journal description and editorial principles reflect a vision for the future of the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research (JHTR). “We are excited that the new statements clearly convey our vision and will provide some specific guidance for authors, reviewers, and readers of JHTR,” said the proud editors of the Journal.

Established in 1976, JHTR has played a major role in incubating, influencing, and inspiring hospitality and tourism research for 45 years. In the fall months of 2021, a task force comprised of editors, associate editors, and board members from JHTR made a collaborative effort to review the existing Journal statements and update as necessary to reflect a collective vision for the future of JHTR. The editors state that “JHTR strives to publish research with IMPACT – JHTR publications are expected to be Innovative, Meaningful, Practically relevant, Academically rigorous, Cross-disciplinary, and Theory-focused.”

The task force members also identified several initiatives and priorities that were categorized into JHTR’s three focus areas (incubate, influence, and inspire). The editors will work closely with the JHTR editorial board to build upon these focus areas in the coming months and formulate implementation strategies. At the conclusion of the task force meetings, the editors stated that they are humbled to be reminded once again how many members of the ICHRIE academy share their commitment and passion for the future of JHTR.
