Leadership and Management in a Family Business Setting

This case study is about Andrew Giuliani, an entrepreneur and restaurant owner in London, Canada for 44 years. He owns or has a partnership in two businesses. The first one is Andrew’s Food Limited, involving a partnership with his sister, Veronica Bruno. The second business is Andrew Giuliani & Sons. When Andrew’s sister proposed to sell her share of Andrew’s Food Limited to Andrew, she made him the sole owner. Andrew has some concerns and decisions to make about managing both operations. This case study intends to spawn discussions about decision-making and preparing small business owners for the implications of partnership and family business succession.

Developing a Boutique Hotel: A case study in New Bern, North Carolina

A local entrepreneur has a goal of developing a boutique hotel in New Bern, North Carolina. His Colonial Place Inn and Spa plans call for 74 unique rooms with distinctive color schemes, meeting space, a full service spa and a restaurant. The conversion and renovation of the two existing buildings in historic downtown New Bern makes the project unique. The primary building is currently a furniture store and the second, connecting building, has a dance studio which would serve as ballroom and meeting space for the hotel. The question is: can all these facilities be assembled into a successful hotel?

A Strategy of Duality: New Choreography for the Marriott/Ritz-Carlton Dance

In 1995, Marriott Corporation acquired The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company desiring to augment their corporation by adding a luxury hotel group to their system—a class of hotels with superior service and brand reputation all its own. The Ritz-Carlton’s connection to Marriott has been largely invisible to the general public over the past 18 years. Marriott has managed to achieve a synergy without diluting The Ritz-Carlton brand experience. This case will explore Marriott’s corporate parenting strategies after acquisition of The Ritz-Carlton and define how this synergistic partnership has flourished.

Holistic Approach to Wellness—A case study of Himalayas

Himalayas are enriched with all the natural resources supporting the wellness. It is blessed with all the unique natural features and attractions such as minerals, healing waters, nature base spiritual centers and various sacred sites. But modern approaches of attaining the wellness like spa and other treatments have deceived the concept. This case study aims to define the realistic approach of Himalayas in fostering the complete wellness of the tourists at no cost considerations. Also this case study approaches to identify the scope of wellness tourism in Himalayan region and various constraints / hindrances in the development of wellness tourism prospects in Himalayas.
