Congratulations to the following students for receiving scholarships through CHRIE FutureFund™.Wangoo Lee is a Best Paper Winner from the 2023 Graduate Research Conference held in Anaheim, California, USA. His paper, ‘Examining the “waiting line” effect during menu ordering with self-service technologies’, was co-authored with his faculty advisor, Dr. Lu Lu. Wangoo is a PhD candidate in Business Administration with focus on Tourism and Hospitality in the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Swechchha Subedi is a 2023 Dissertation Proposal Competition Winner from the University of South Carolina. Each submission to the Dissertation Proposal Competition was vetted on five major criteria; innovativeness, meaningfulness, practical relevance, academic rigor, and cross-disciplinary application. Wenfang (Eris) Liu is a 2023 Doctoral Proposal Competition Winner from the University of Houston. Her dissertation proposal, ‘An exploration of ghost kitchen business model: Kitchen rental firms and entrepreneurs’ investment motivation’, was judged on five primary criteria; innovativeness, meaningfulness, practical relevance, academic rigor, and cross-disciplinary application. His proposal, ‘Leveraging the distinct competencies of highly skilled immigrant employees in hotels’, was judged on five criteria: innovativeness, meaningfulness, practical relevance, academic rigor, and cross-disciplinary application. Rachel Zhang is a 2023 Dissertation Proposal Competition Winner. Her proposal, ‘Restaurant demand seasonality: Measurement, drivers, and external shocks’, was evaluated on five criteria; innovativeness, meaningfulness, practical relevance, academic rigor, and cross-disciplinary application. Araceli Hernandez Calderon, a doctoral student at the University of Houston, is one of the Best Paper Winners from the 2023 Graduate Research Conference. Her paper, ‘Theory-driven predictive modeling for food-service crowdfunding success: An integrated approach with business intelligence and supervised machine learning’, was co-authored with faculty supervisors Yoon Koh and Minwoo Lee, both from the University of Houston.
