We would like to shortly report from EuroCHRIE Sustainability symposium which featured:

  1. Integrating sustainability in higher education via the Whole School Approach (Malu Boerwinkel, Hotel Management School Maastricht).
  2. Using AI to foster class engagement on challenging sustainability topics (Adam Carmer, School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Muma College of Business, University of South Florida)
  3. Preview of the Net Positive Hospitality Simulation (developed by the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance  - ICHRIE being a partner of the Alliance - and Tim Rogmans who is behind the Sustainability Management Simulation: Net Zero distributed via Harvard Publishing) – Willy Legrand IU International University of Applied Sciences, Germany).

For this upcoming SIG meeting, Adam will be presenting on the use of AI in class activities toward enhanced classroom engagement when covering challenging sustainability topics and concepts.

I will be offering a preview of the Net Zero Hospitality Simulation explaining how it works, how it can be implemented in class, showing how decisions impact a series of sustainability indicators and so on. The basic idea is to take over a hotel for a period of seven years with the aim of making as much progress as possible towards the achievement of Net Positive Hospitality.

The agenda is as follows:

5min Welcome
5min Update from EuroCHRIE
20min Presentation & Discussion: AI: challenging sustainability topics & classroom engagement
20min Presentation & Discussion: Net Zero Hospitality Simulation: From Theory to Practice
10min Q&A, and conclusion

We would be very interested having you involved as much as possible so do bring in your ideas, concerns and recommendations along.
