Category: Events

Dear ICHRIE SIG Sustainability and Innovations colleagues,

I hope this email finds you all well.

@All new members of this ICHRIE SIG: a warm welcome!

As background information: The aim of this SIG is to ensure that sustainability is anchored in the hospitality academic conversation through enhanced cooperation*. So do consider this as a platform where ICHRIE members can join forces to devise teaching material, create research connections and collectively brainstorm on the best methods and approaches to rethink and reinvent a hospitality industry which is kind to the environment, healthy to its workers, pleasing to its guests, active in the community, and efficient for the operators and owners.

*One of those cooperations is with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance a leading membership organization representing influential hospitality companies with the goal to advance sustainability strategies and practices (continue reading here below)

Coming in January 2024

On Wednesday, 24th January 2024 (17:00GMT 18:00CET 12:00USA ET) and under the EuroCHRIE umbrella, I am delighted to be joined by:

  • Claire Whitely, Head of Environment at Sustainable Hospitality Alliance

And

  • Tim Rogmans, Managing Director at Sim Institute

as we showcase “Interactive Sustainability: The Net Positive Hospitality Simulation” (https://sustainablehospitalityalliance.org/net-positive-hospitality-simulation/).

The Net Positive Hospitality Simulation aims to empower and educate leaders and students in the hospitality sector, providing practical ways to implement a path towards Net Positive Hospitality. The simulation enables users to manage a hotel for seven years, implementing sustainability initiatives and observing their impacts. The simulation integrates major global challenges, from labor rights, energy and water efficiency to community involvement and biodiversity to name a few. Participants receive feedback and performance analysis related to People, Planet, Place, and Prosperity (the 4Ps) after each decision-making round. The outcome is a deeper understanding of sustainability actions and the formation of tailored sustainability action plans.

Join us for a webinar featuring the Net Positive Hospitality Simulation.

This is a chance to explore practical ways for leaders and students in hospitality to implement sustainability.

Claire Whitely will explain the Net Positive Hospitality pathway; Tim Rogmans will discuss how the simulation was developed to mirror real-life hotel management and sustainability decision-making and I will share how the simulation works with students with a live demonstration and we can discuss ways to integrate this simulation into your curriculum for a more sustainable future in hospitality.

Registration is a must and can be done through the EuroCHRIE website:

Wishing you a happy end of the year celebrations and

Greetings from Bonn, Germany
