“Reinventing Hospitality Education: A Social Imperative” Welcome by Jasmin Tanguay Senior Director of Programs, Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) Wednesday, 24 July 2024 at 5:45 PM Jasmin Tanguay has worked at the ITHQ for 26 years. As an instructor from 2005 to 2013, he fulfilled different management responsibilities as part of his executive positions in the vocational, technical and student life departments and the registrar’s office. Since 2013, he has focused on higher education, and in 2016 he began serving as Senior Director of University Programs and Research until his recent appointment in November 2023 as Senior Director of Programs. His main achievements include the creation of two research units at the ITHQ as well as the first BA program that the ITHQ has offered independently (Baccalauréat appliqué en gestion de l’accueil et de l’hôtellerie / Applied Bachelor in Hospitality and Hotel Management). Special Keynote Guest Speaker Philip Mondor, President and CEO Tourism HR Canada Wednesday, 24 July 2024 at 5:45 PM Philip is an accomplished leader with nearly 35 years of experience working with labour market stakeholders across Canada and abroad including foreign governments, pan-global organizations, Canadian and non-Canadian businesses, and various education and training bodies. His work spans over 15 industrial sectors and in 11 countries, with most of his career focused on the tourism industry. Philip serves on several advisory committees and non-profit boards and volunteers for causes that help advance workforce issues and improve opportunities for people to engage in community and meaningful employment. Sustainability Advancements in Education & Business Introduction by Glenn Mandziuk CEO, World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance Thursday, 25 July 2024 at 8:20 AM Glenn Mandziuk is an internationally recognised chief executive with over 25 years of leadership experience in advancing sustainable practices in tourism, hospitality and economic development, and establishing strategies and programmes that inspire responsible growth. Within his role as CEO of the Alliance, Glenn has led the development of the organisation’s updated Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, overseen substantial expansion of the organisation’s network for responsible hospitality, and been the pioneer behind multiple high-level World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance Summits. Alongside his leadership of the Alliance, Glenn has been chosen to be Co-chair of the Sustainable Markets Initiative Hospitality and Tourism Task Force, alongside Considerate Group Co-founding Partner, Xenia zu Hohenlohe. He has also been appointed as member of the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Professional (ITHP) Advisory Council, and the International CHRIE Industry Advisory Council (IAC), the first of its kind in the organisation’s 75-year history. Prior to becoming CEO of the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, Glenn was President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada’s Thompson Okanagan Tourism Region (TOTA) with its 4,000 industry stakeholders. Glenn has 10 years’ experience in the hospitality industry in family-owned and operated hotels and resorts and holds a Master of Environmental Design degree majoring in sustainable tourism planning. He is also a director on the Board of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and the Responsible Tourism Institute. Keynote by Patrick O’Meara Director of Partnerships and Business Engagement, World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance Patrick O’Meara is responsible for managing the Alliance’s relations with members and programme engagement. He is the Alliance Lead for the Risk and Resilience Standing Committee. Patrick previously worked as part of our former organization, Business in the Community (BITC). Patrick helped establish BITC’s membership team in 2006 and served as its Membership Director from 2006-2017. He also led The Prince’s Seeing is Believing Programme for over a decade and served on BITC’s Executive Team. Since 2017, Patrick has enjoyed a portfolio career, leading projects and taking on interim roles with businesses and charities in the UK, Ireland and the USA. Patrick also serves on the board of two charities, on the alumni board of his university and a family-owned property business.
Susie Grynol Executive Interview with Chrystel Masdupuy Thursday, 25 July 2024 at 1:45 PM Susie Grynol Market Vice President, Eastern Canada, Marriott Hotels of Canada Susie launched her career in the association sector at the National Association of Consulting Engineering Companies in 2005. There she quickly rose through the ranks from Coordinator to Vice-President, overseeing government relations, media relations, events, conferences, and membership. She was recruited in 2013 by the Retail Council of Canada, one of Canada’s largest trade associations, as Vice President of Federal Government Relations, head of the Ottawa office, and lead strategist and spokesperson for the retail industry on Federal issues in Ottawa. In 2016, Susie joined the Hotel Association of Canada as the President and CEO. During her tenure, she drove a successful turn-around strategy, building the association’s profile, influence and membership to new heights. She is also a champion of diversity and gender parity. For the last 4 years, Susie was named one of Canada’s top 100 lobbyists by the Hill Times. She has won 5 national awards for the Association’s COVID response, including a Pinnacle Award and a Hospitality Hero award from Kostuch Media. In June 2024, Susie joined Marriott International as Market Vice President, Eastern region. In her new role she has profit and loss responsibility for 26 managed by Marriott hotels, representing more than $1 billion in revenue and approximately 10,000 employees. Inspirational Story about Overcoming Failure & Adapting to Change Keynote by Mylene Paquette Friday, 26 July 2024 at 9:25 AM In 2013, Mylène became the first North American to cross the North Atlantic Ocean by solo rowing – 5,000 kilometers from Canada to France achieved on her own! She then documented this extraordinary odyssey in a popular book and in 2019 co-wrote a theatre play that recounted the passionate highlights of her journey. |
